Reflection on ICT integration (3^rd)

In my first blog lesson I have primarily emphasized on general social platforms used for teaching and learning. The second blog lesson was concentrated particularly on specific subject and topic using one social forum to deliver the lesson. Now it has been almost a year for both the students and the teachers not having normal class, different strategies are being put into place to ensure the continued education to all students. Online learning has become popular because of its potential for providing more flexible for the learners and educators to explore. The mobility and flexibility offered by video conferencing gives more control over their lesson, and this helps to improve retention. It feels connected and part of team when they can connect face-to-face with their teacher and classmates.

Considering the opportunity various online strategies to teach English lesson on three strands (listening, speaking and writing.) with grade two students were looked into. These are done via video conferencing on social media platform like telegram, WeChat, zoom and messenger. Initially video conferencing was not satisfactory as many students failed to follow the instructions on operating the video conference. In addition, those students who are having younger siblings distracted the conference and could understand the lesson taught. I had to re-teach them. After couple of trial students were able to follow the instructions provided through video conference. More over students were so much excited to see their friends live and enthusiast in learning.

The lesson conducted during video conferencing was on short text ‘get well soon’ for the students to read and tell what they understood by reading text and share their view. I have categories students into three strands (listening, speaking and writing) according to their ability and carried out the activity to cater to accordingly. Those students who are poor in listening were given to write a short text narration to listen over the head phone and write the text in their note book. Students who are not good in reading were given reading text to read, practice and make video of them reading. Finally, for those students who are poor in writing were given to write a short descriptive essay using the picture send through telegram; and literary need to type in the computer and send back for correction.

All the above teaching and learning happened due to students’ parents’ support. Students of my class has given immense support specially in operating video conferencing and guiding their work to complete. Some parents used and took help from their immediate neighbors to carryout especially during live video conferencing. In a way students, parents and teachers became technology savvy after couple of experience. It helps to learn new teaching and management techniques.

To improve her fluency and pronunciation, she was given a text to read for several times. Later she can make a video of her reading and send to WeChat group for evaluation.

Use of ICT in teaching and learning Math, Grade II

The ICT integration here is the students using smartphones which they will download  and play to watch the video. To many kids simply knowing how to download and play video itself is challenging. This is the simple steps to fiddle the smartphones and takes to next level learning ICT.

Students will complete the activity on measuring mass after watching the video. These activities has been extracted from the self instructional materials provided by the MoE.

Students work 

Students being able to fiddle the smart phones as source of  learning results in productive outcomes. Here students using phones to view the task assigned by the teacher, read the instructions by themselves and carryout the activity accordingly. Next take snap shots of their and return through WeChat itself. 

Reflection

    In the light of recent covid-19 pandemic, it has made every people to stay at home. The schools across our country was also shut down to prevent from the pandemic nevertheless student’s education was not compromised due to the lockdown. Even though online class is new to both the teachers and students it’s vital in students learning. Therefore, various social media platform was made to explore, adopted different strategies to learn through online.

    In my first post, I reflected on teachers adopting various social medias in helping students to learn. Keeping student's convenient in consideration, they were allowed to use the social media of their choice as a source of learning. This time I emphases on use of ICT in particular social media, WeChat. Since I too teach grade II, and WeChat is popular and widely used.

    Through WeChat, both teachers and students can write message, voice message and most probably guide through video call to help in completing their work if necessary. There are parents who are illiterate and couldn't understand what the written text actually meant, I have send the instructions to particular parents in their language to further help in carrying out student's activity meaningfully. 

    When the students master the particular use of  social media, they become more familiar and enhance their skills.  It promotes intellectual of the child through higher order thinking, improve problem-solving skills, improve communication skills and increase the exploration of knowledge through various media. As a teacher we must give them a dais to explore, to cope and to adopt to demand of the environment.

ICT integration in daily teaching

It is essential to integrate ICT in  21^st century learning and teaching process. ICT integration in teaching enhances learners to gain clear concept on what the teacher is teaching. Moreover it also helps to acquire knowledge in wider perspective which later students become creative and innovative. Considering the fact a teacher should be competent enough to ensure that every student learns through ICT. Similarly ICT is the information tools where the students get to explore beyond what they know and learn.
